I’ll be honest and admit that my hair was never something I invested in until recently. Whilst I’ve always gotten excited about make-up and skincare, when it came to hair products; I’d always just grab whatever was on offer! However, since getting extensions fitted, I’ve made a conscious effort to take better care of my hair and have injected a little luxury into my routine. Here’s what I’ve been using:
Smith England Ultra Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner. I recently came across Smith on Instagram and was instantly drawn in by the pretty packaging. After doing a bit of research and reading several glowing reviews, I decided to treat myself to a few of their products. As my hair is quite fine, super rich shampoos/conditioners can leave it feeling heavy and greasy, so the Ultra Gentle range is perfect for me. It gives me clean, swishy hair without weighing it down. It also has a light herbal/spa-like scent to it which I love.
Smith England Intensive Moisture Mask. A good hair mask is an essential part of my pamper routine, so I decided to pick this up alongside my shampoo and conditioner. I’ve used it once a week since I purchased it and I love the way it makes my hair feel – soft, healthy and super hydrated. It’s worth noting also that all of Smith’s products are completely free of sulphates, silicones, parabens or colourants – perfect for extensions!
Kerastase Ciment Thermique Strengthening Milk. For a good ten years I’ve used the TRESemme Heat Defence Spray (which I still love) before blow drying my hair, but I thought it was time I invested in a few salon based products. I’ve heard good things about Kerastase for years (if it’s good enough for Kate Middleton, it’s good enough for me), and after seeing Sarah Ashcroft rave about the Strengthening Milk in her recent hair care video, I decided to give it a try. After showering, I run a small amount through my lengths and ends and I’ve noticed my blow-drying time has reduced significantly. My hair also appears much less ‘fluffy’ afterwards meaning I don’t even have to style it if I don’t want to!
Moroccan Oil Light. I’ve been using this on and off ever since I first started blogging back in 2011 and my God, I LOVE it. It’s like liquid gold. First of all, it smells amazing (if they bottled the scent up and sold it as a fragrance, I would buy it), secondly, it makes my hair feel incredible. It’s the only thing that helped nurse my poor, broken ends back to life after I bleached them to death several years back. Nowadays, I notice such a difference when I don’t use it. I run a little through my lengths and ends before blow-drying and after styling and it gives me beautifully-scented, glossy locks.
I buy the Light version but I’ve used the original in the past and didn’t notice any greasiness; I just heard it can stain lighter hair so I switched. The is one product that pulls at my nostalgia strings, too – I remember every beauty blogger/YouTuber being obsessed with Moroccan Oil back in the day!
Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray (Strong Hold). I’ve been on the lookout for a hairspray that holds your style yet doesn’t leave a sticky residue. I also hate the typical ‘hair-spray’ scent, so for me Moroccan Oil was the ultimate option! This is the perfect finishing touch to my routine – it smells amazing and keeps my hair in place without the tell-tale crispy finish.
Generally I try to stick to washing my hair three times a week. Since having extensions I’ve found I can go a little longer in between as it’s much thicker – I just use Batiste when it’s not looking so fresh! As for brushes, I’ve used Tangle Teezers for years and I’ve found they’re the best (especially for extennys). Styling wise, again I try not to use too much heat, but if I’m going out I’ll run the straighteners through it just to neaten it up or pop some waves in. And that’s my routine!
