Hello! I hope you’re all well and that you and your families are keeping healthy. It’s been such a surreal few weeks, hasn’t it? I didn’t want to talk too much about COVID-19 as we’re already experiencing so much anxiety from watching the news and browsing social media, but I didn’t want to seem insensitive by not mentioning it. I hope everyone is safe and staying positive!
Today I really wanted to post something lighthearted. Even though these are uncertain times, we’re still heading into a beautiful time of year and I’m determined to enjoy it. So, without further ado, here are five reasons why I adore Spring…
Easter. Anyone who knows me will be aware that I have a serious sweet tooth. Therefore, no matter how ‘good’ I’m trying to be, when Easter rolls around I put the fruit/veg on hold and go in hard! Hot cross buns, mini eggs, Rice Krispie nests, Malteaser bunnies… I’m obsessed with it all. I imagine that my plan to get back into running will be essential with all the sugar I’m planning on consuming during this social distancing period.
Pastels. I feel like I’m the only person who isn’t a fan of A/W fashion – I much prefer shopping for clothes during the warmer months. Spring is by far my favourite season to dress for – I love the florals, trench coats, pretty sleeves and pastel shades. I have to wear all black for work so I’m a huge fan of colour on my days off.
Longer days/warmer weather. Here in the UK it feels as if the winter drags on forever. Therefore, it’s such a wonderful feeling to wake up early/finish work and see that it’s still light! I feel so much more motivated to get out and about – walk the dogs, head out for a jog or simply pop into the village for a coffee. I know the weather is still a bit miserable but it’s nice to know that summer is not too far away!
Daffodils. They say that yellow is the happiest colour so it’s no surprise that daffodils make us feel so cheery. Apparently, they also symbolise rebirth and new beginnings, which is fitting for the time of year! Nothing brings me joy like seeing a beautiful bed of flowers alongside the sound of birds chirping; it truly makes my heart sing.
Baby animals. During Spring, I always look forward to spotting wildlife whilst I’m out walking the dog or jogging. Baby animals are so undeniably cute. If the UK does go into lock down, we’re luckily still able to walk and exercise outside, which is amazing for keeping active and also clearing the mind. The National Trust have a list here of places you can see spring lambs. For those who aren’t aware, NT will be opening its gardens and park lands for free during the pandemic so everyone still has access to open space.
Are you a fan of spring? x
Daffodils are my favourite flower, it’s so cute and it’s the first flower we see when winter ends. Daffodils are full of sweet promises! Longer (and brighter) days are also a big one because they just improve your mood instantly!
