On my work days I’m so disorganized first thing. I never prep my lunches, breakfast is a slice of toast as I’m rushing out the door (if that) and I usually finish my make-up on the train. However, on my days off I savour my mornings. I love waking up to no alarm, taking my time to cook something delicious and heading out on a long walk with the dog.
Since being furloughed I’ve been enjoying my slow starts. It’s my favourite part of the day because, as strange as it sounds, I feel a sense of purpose. And peace! I have my daily exercise to look forward to, a proper breakfast and time to simply sit and enjoy a cup of tea. Even if I don’t do much with the rest of my day, I still feel a sense of achievement and calm from my morning routine.
Once I’m awake (usually around 8am) I tend to laze around for half an hour or so, reading my book or scrolling through Instagram. When I eventually get up, I always make my bed (something I never do when I’ve got work!) so I’m not tempted to get back in it. It also helps me feel productive and obviously makes my room look much neater.
For brekkie I’ve been having my homemade granola (now I finally have time to make it regularly) with yoghurt and lots of fresh fruit. As the weather’s been so beautiful recently, my family and I have been eating in the garden. It feels a real rare treat to enjoy a long, leisurely breakfast in the sunshine.
Since takeaway coffees are no longer an option, I’ve been attempting to make my own. I’ve done the whole Dalgona/whipped coffee a few times – they taste good but always turn out a bit lumpy (for me, anyway). This simple iced coffee recipe is my favourite; it’s super easy and is just as delicious as any store-bought version!
ICED COFFEE
Ingredients
Serves two people
- 2 tbsp Instant Coffee
- 2 tbsp Sugar (I like brown sugar as it's not as sickly sweet)
- 200 ml Hot Water
- Ice
- Milk
Instructions
- Add your coffee, water and sugar to a measuring jug. Stir until the granules have dissolved
- Chill the jug in the fridge for an hour or overnight
- Place ice and milk of your choice (I like oat milk) into a glass. Top up with the chilled coffee mixture, stir and enjoy!
At the moment the UK is allowed one form of exercise per day. This is my favourite part of my morning. I don’t get chance to take the dog with my mum very often due to work, so it’s been lovely going on lots of long walks. I’m lucky in that I live in a fairly rural area so we don’t tend to see many people about.
We walk for around 40 mins to 2 hours depending on how we feel. Frankie (our Frenchie) has also been loving the extra company!

It’s usually well into the afternoon when I return home. After a cup of tea, a snack and a shower, it’s time to decide what to do with the rest of my day. Whether that be baking, blogging or vegging out in front of Disney+, I try to keep myself distracted.
I know this hasn’t been the most exciting blog post, but at the moment I’ve been attempting to find beauty in the mundane (as cliche as that sounds!) I hope you’re all keeping well and staying sane during these bizarre times. How have you been spending your mornings? I’d love to know x
You’re so lucky you have that glorious countryside to explore during these times, and you have a dog which is even better! Your days actually sound quite fulfilled and like they have a lot of structure to them. I am still working from home so I get up for 9 to turn my laptop on, make myself some breakfast and work for a bit. Usually at lunch I’ll go out for a run and to get some fresh air, come back and work until 6 ish and then cook some sort of extravagant meal and decide what to watch on telly.

It’s great to see the little things that make your mornings better these days. Having extra time to take it slow is definitely great – and that means we start the day with less stress than we usually would. Thank you for sharing your iced coffee recipe! Since it’s sunny and warm these days I should really switch my hot coffee for an iced one! 🙂
Take care!

The countryside by your home looks so beautiful! I’d love to be able to take walks there. I feel the same about my mornings too, it’s nice to have slow but productive starts to the day xx
